CASING (CRIMINAL RECONNAISSANCE)
This generally involves people in vehicles driving slowly around our area either observing our activities or looking for soft targets for subsequent robberies or break-ins. In some instances this activity may also constitute a violation of the current COVID-19 regulations. Some South African municipalities prohibit "loitering with intent to commit a crime" but mostly when these perpetrators realise that they have been observed, they speed off. The most important aspect is to try to record, in the case of a car, the details of the vehicle (including registration number) and occupants.
Casing can also be done on foot or bicycle so it pays all to be aware of those that surround us!
