Robbery

ROBBERY (ARMED OR OTHERWISE)

Robbery is a much abused term and is often used by lay people to describe any act of theft. As such it is important to note that robbery is defined as follows:

Robbery is the theft of property by unlawfully and intentionally using violence or threats of violence to take the property from someone else. There is no requirement for a weapon to be used although sadly we see all too often that robbery is committed by persons brandishing either knives or firearms. Note, the mere threat of violence will suffice to convict a perpetrator of the crime of  robbery.
